Mary Pickford (1893-1979) was one of the 20th century's first movie stars. Now she offers some of the new century's best rentals.
Most of us have heard of her, but how many have actually seen any of the silent-screen icon's movies? Her nickname, "America's Sweetheart," suggests a Shirley-Temple-meets-"Rebecca-of-Sunnybrook-Farm" wholesomeness, and the latter is a role she played. But the six movies released by Milestone Video and the Mary Pickford Foundation - "Amarilly of Clothes-Line Alley," "Stella Maris," "Daddy-Long-Legs," "Tess of the Storm Country," "Sparrows" and "My Best Girl" - show she was more than a goody-two-shoes.
