Our Lady of Hope Parish in Moscow is a vital temporal and spiritual refuge for foreign Catholics, especially Africans facing discrimination and violence in the Russian capital.
The parish's five communities worship in English, French and Tagalog, but are united in their common creed and through the leadership of Marist Fr. Michael Ryan, a 50-year-old Londoner who has lived in Russia for six year. Often, the parishioners have called Moscow home for only two or three years.
The parish has never had a proper home, always using borrowed or rented space. Ryan says his dream is to unite the groups even further by finding a common, permanent space.
