WASHINGTON--Goodyear and other manufacturers are unhappy over a pending health care reform bill they say could make employers' costs for health maintenance organization benefits prohibitively expensive.
House and Senate conferees have been chosen to reconcile both bodies' versions of legislation to expand the legal rights of HMO enrollees, but the conference probably won't begin until January, after the holiday recess.
The House bill, which passed 275-151 on Oct. 7, includes a controversial provision to allow HMO members to sue their health plans in state courts for injuries or deaths resulting from denial of covered benefits.
