HAUGESUND, Norway-The owner of the Sleipner, a Norwegian passenger ferry that sank the night of Nov. 26 after running aground off Norway's west coast, is insured for hull and liability losses from the accident.
The cause of the sinking, which killed 16 people, was under investigation last week and a public inquiry was scheduled to begin today. International liability conventions would limit the shipowner's liability per passenger, unless it is proved that the accident was caused by negligence.
