WASHINGTON-It's not over yet.
Even though 1999's hurricane season officially ended on Nov. 30, the United States has already "turned a corner" into what could be a 20- to 30-year period of greater-than-normal hurricane activity, warns Jerry Jarrell, director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
As a result, this year's unusually active hurricane season could well be repeated sooner rather than later, according to D. James Baker, administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
