Jan. 4--John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. has signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with Major League Baseball that sources said is worth at least $10 million and probably much more.

The move extends a one-year contract that Hancock had in connection with the 1999 MLB All-Star Game at Fenway Park and puts the Boston-based insurance giant in the company of Adidas, FleetBoston Financial Group, Gillette, Gulden's mustard, MasterCard, Pepsi-Cola, and Ritz crackers, which also are Major League Baseball sponsors.
