DURHAM, N.H. -- Republicans George Bush and John McCain snapped at each other in a raucous debate last night that exposed sharp differences on issues ranging from God to taxes to campaign finance reform.
The testy exchanges underscored the high-stakes driving the tight race between the pair in the leadoff New Hampshire primary that is just three weeks away.
McCain wasted no time, hitting Bush for launching a negative campaign: "Right now a supporter of yours is running attack ads morphing Bill Clinton's face into mine. By the way, ask if you can get a better picture of me, will you?"
The Arizona senator branded the Bush tactic "desperate."
