NEW YORK -- Like a bouffant hairdo that's lost all its hairspray, hair accessories have gone flat.
So makers are looking for ways to regenerate interest in the category, moving beyond butterflies, glitter and hair jewelry, and are offering simpler shapes and designs as well as special fabrics for spring and summer. Novelty items, including ethnic-inspired and beaded designs, scarf-inspired head bands as well as ponytail holders in a range of designs, are also gaining momentum, vendors said.
