The turn of the millennium! How many people in the history of the world have seen it? When it occurs, it inspires deep introspection, fears of doom and the end of the world, monumental New Year's resolutions, and most of all, predictions for the next millennium. Not that we limit ourselves to the turn of a millennium to make predictions. However laughable they nearly always turn out to be, we still make them -- we love to make them.
My job for this Millennium issue of Searcher is to predict what scientific and patent information will look like in the next millennium, or as far into it as I care to venture. But before I try to look ahead to the next millennium, ...
