Jim Rice's name was not mentioned when baseball's Hall of Fame announced its latest inductees yesterday. That's six years now, and counting, that Rice has failed to make it.
While Carlton Fisk and Tony Perez received the grand news and were being ushered into what, for the rest of the week, will be a dizzying round of press conferences and television appearances, Rice remains just another quality big leaguer who finished among the also-rans. He received 257 votes, or 51.5 percent of the record 499 votes cast. A player must receive 75 percent of votes cast to earn induction to Cooperstown.
