NICOSIA, Cyprus - The recently formed Iranian government is sending diplomatic feelers to Arab states across the Persian Gulf, pledging a "constructive attitude" to solve the area's problems.
While the Gulf Arabs have little faith in the promises of Tehran's revolutionary regime, they welcome any gesture that would help defuse the tension in one of the world's most sensitive regions.
Kamal Kharrazi, who succeeded Ali Akbar Velayati as Iran's foreign minister, is planning a tour of the key capitals of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a six-country grouping headed by Saudi Arabia.
