Jan. 18--The image of the Confederate flag flying atop the South Carolina State House dome flashed across the nation dozens of times Monday.
So, too, did the scene of nearly 50,000 people who had gathered in Columbia for a rally that not only commemorated the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., but also called for the banner to be taken down.
The nation's top three networks ABC, CBS and NBC and cable's CNN and MSNBC converged on the city and showcased the state's Confederate flag controversy for millions of Americans to see.
