Toasters and toaster ovens continue to be one of the core categories of kitchen electrics. Mass channels dominates sales, but department stores and specialty stores are finding a market in higher-end models that offer more features and upscale design.
The "retro" styling so popular today hides the fact that the current crop of toasters and toaster ovens is technologically superior to earlier models. Manufacturers have added electronics that allow these products to defrost like a microwave. Also on the features list are wider toaster slots that accommodate larger-sized foods, such as bagels.
