THE chairman of German Rail (DB), Dr Johannes Ludewig, and the president of Netherlands Railways (NS), Dr Rob den Besten, have signed an agreement to set up a new joint freight company with effect from January 1 2000. This follows a memorandum of understanding.
The board of Rail Cargo Europe (the working title) will have members from DB and NS. Its headquarters will he in Mainz, Germany, where DB Cargo is based.
