Mylan Laboratories Inc. (NYSE:MYL), Pittsburgh, Pa., has announced that the Food and Drug Administration has granted approval for Azathioprine tablets in 50mg. strength.
Azathioprine is the generic equivalent to Imuran, an immunosuppressive antimetabolite manufactured by Glaxo Wellcome Inc.
The product is indicated as an adjunct for the prevention of rejection in renal homotransplantation. It is also indicated for the management of severe, active rheumatoid arthritis unresponsive to rest, aspirin, or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
