The Red Sox did not make any last-second deals with any of their five arbitration-eligible players yesterday, but the club will shortly begin making a serious push toward signing center fielder Carl Everett to a long-term deal. Everett's agent Larry Reynolds said yesterday that he expects discussions on a long-term contract to begin later this week.
"Where it goes, if it goes anywhere, I don't know," said Reynolds, who refused to speculate about the chances of securing a deal.
Everett, whom the Sox traded for last month, is the only one of the five arbitration-eligible players to be considered a cornerstone of the Sox' future. While the sides begin ...
