Jan. 20--COLUMBIA, S.C.--The Confederate battle flag should be moved from its spot on the Capitol dome to an honorable and historically significant place on the Statehouse grounds, Gov. Jim Hodges said in his annual State of the State address Wednesday night.
Saying the debate over the flag is using up time and energy that could be put to better use "building schools, improving health care and recruiting jobs," the governor urged legislators to find a solution.
He told reporters at a separate interview that he would not recommend a particular place for the flag. He sees himself as a facilitator of a settlement for the contentious issue, not as one who ...
