Alan Parker last went to Ireland as a director to make the film "The Commitments." It was a commitment of another kind that brought him back, and kept him there: to make a film of Frank McCourt's "Angela's Ashes."
It certainly wasn't for his health.
"Sometimes, halfway through filming while having the flu for three months solid, I wondered why I was doing it, actually," Parker said during a short visit to the United States from his London home.
