After months of springlike weather, winter is finally here. And that's good news for allergy suffers . . . right? Not exactly, say specialists.
Though freezing temperatures prevent the growth and circulation of certain outdoor molds, the lion's share of winter allergens are found at home.
"The most common reason for people to suffer from allergies in the winter is due to indoor allergens - particularly animal dander and dust mites," said Dr. John Costa, a staff allergist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
