Key areas for a 1999 health programme - on promotion, information, education and training - have been singled out in a recent European Commission memorandum. The paper covers initiatives aiming at putting existing knowledge into practice to influence factors that determine a healthy lifestyle. The development of infrastructure for health promotion will also continue to be supported under the new programme, with emphasis on training and quality assurance.
