2000 JAN 30 - (NewsRx.com) -- Using a patient's own tumor cells to produce immunity against further cancer growth may offer longer life to some patients, researchers have found in the first randomized multi-center test of immunotherapy in colon cancer patients.
The seven-year, 412-patient trial, conducted by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, demonstrates the promise of adjuvant active specific immunotherapy for stage II and III colon cancer patients, says lead author, Jules E. Harris, MD, of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
