Summary: During their Council meeting in Brussels on November 17, EU Ministers in charge of the Audiovisual portfolio unanimously endorsed the terms of the Amsterdam Protocol on public service broadcasting. The Resolution they adopted repeats, virtually verbatim, the wording of the Protocol.
According to the wording of the Resolution, the Council and the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States confirm that "the provisions of the Treaty establishing the European Community shall be without prejudice to the competence of Member States to provide for the funding of public service radio broadcasting insofar as such funding is granted to broadcasting ...
