Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir can finally breathe a little easier. After several months of trying to consolidate power, Bashir has finally entered into a power-sharing agreement with his political nemesis, Parliament speaker Hassan Turabi. The power struggle between the two had come to a head December 12 1999 when the president declared a 3-month state of emergency and dissolved parliament. Since then, Bashir had worked to shore up his political support both inside and outside the country.
