One year ago this week, Dance Umbrella's Artistic Director Jeremy Alliger announced that unless the organization raised $350,000 within days, it would shut down and the remainder of the season would be canceled.
But now, rather than feeling like they're attending a funeral procession, Dance Umbrella's staff and board are jubilant. Yesterday, Alliger and board Chairman Robert Davis announced the results of the first year of a multiyear strategic planning process, which began last January when Fleet Bank donated $60,000 throughout three years to help "rescue" the contemporary dance presenter.
