Feb. 2--Just over a year ago, Supreme International was a bit player in the fashion and apparel industry, selling primarily men's knit shirts and casual wear.

That changed when it paid $75 million for the rights to the Perry Ellis trademark and changed its corporate name to Perry Ellis International. Now, the Miami company is trying to elevate its stature and play in the industry's big leagues.

That message was delivered Monday night at a gala fashion show aimed at relaunching the Perry Ellis brand.
