PROJECT OVERVIEW

An international consortium consisting of U.S.-based SEMPRA ENERGY, UNION FENOSA of Spain and the local ANCAP had been selected in early 1998 to build a national gas distribution network in the country. However, a final contract was only recently concluded in order to enable the project to move ahead.

According to the terms of the agreement, the concession is to last for a 20 year period and include a further 10-year option. Development plans call for installing some 3,800 kms of transmission lines in order to enable the delivery of gas to 70 cities in the interior of the country.
