CHICAGO-Casual and color will be the watchwords in glassware during the International Housewares Show here next week.
Glass beverageware, which struggled a bit in 1998, rebounded somewhat last year. The industry, noting consumers' growing desire to entertain at home, is focusing on casual, oversized pieces, such as large iced beverage glasses, that fit that lifestyle.
Barware has also gotten a boost from the entertaining trend, as well as from the retro appeal of specific drinks (such as martinis and highballs) that call for specific glasses. Many manufacturers will be exhibiting double old-fashioned (DOF) glasses, coolers and more.
