American Airlines has said that it will be reducing capacity in its coach class by about 6.4%, which will see 7,200 seats removed from aircraft in its 700-strong fleet.

The reduction will create more room between coach class seats, which CEO and chairman Donald Carty said `is the right thing to do in today`s competitive environment.`
