Ford Motor Co., the first major company to do so, offered each of its 350,000 worldwide employees a home computer, a color printer, and unlimited access to the Internet for $5 a month. Reciting a need to allow its employees to participate in the information age, Ford spokesman indicated that individuals and companies that wish to be successful in the 21st Century will need to be knowledgeable in using the Internet and related technology.
