Article: Little excitement in main European vitamin/minerals markets last year.

With not much in the way of innovation in the over-the-counter vitamins and minerals sector, growth rates have been subdued in most countries and categories, according to Nicholas Hall's OTC News, which gives a round-up of the five leading European markets, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, largely using figures based on industry estimates for the 12 months to August 1999, calculated at manufacturers' selling prices.

The most striking exception to this trend was multivitamin sales in Italy. The main trends seem to include a move towards the mass market and, more worryingly, OTC News observes, towards inexpensive private-label products.
