ROSEVILLE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- It's been purported for years that vitamin E can help prevent heart disease. Even mainstream physicians have begun to recommend this supplement to their patients. However, a new trial casts cold water on that promising notion.
The Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation (HOPE) study found that natural vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) at a dose of 400 IU daily did not reduce heart attacks, strokes, or deaths in people with heart disease.
