Feb. 5--Like it or not, the distribution of liquor in New Mexico is being taken over by the country's two largest distributors.
And Santa Fe retailers say they're concerned about the long-term effect on prices with the concentration of liquor wholesaling here in the hands of just two companies -- Southern Wine & Spirits of America, based in Miami, and National Distributing, out of Atlanta.
"Prices are going to go up," said Hank Well, owner of Kaune's Grocery Co. on Washington Avenue downtown. "It's shocking. You see it every day in the corporate world, and now it's happening in Santa Fe."
