* The current Dalai Lama (photo below), the 14th in Tibet's history, looks and acts more like a kindly grandfather than a god-king revered by 2.5 million followers. Born in 1935, he was chosen to replace the 13th Dalai Lama in 1940 as a 5-year-old boy.
