Feb. 8--With fuel prices close to a 10-year high, big users of gasoline and diesel in Nebraska are scrambling to find ways to cope with higher costs.
And in some cases, the solutions involve passing on those costs to clients, hikes that are expected to ultimately ripple all the way through the economy, driving up the prices consumers pay for everything from televisions to turnips.
The average price for self-service unleaded gasoline in Nebraska last month jumped more than 31 percent from January 1999 levels, to $1.244 a gallon, according to surveys of service stations by the American Automobile Association. In an eight-state region that includes ...
