Feb. 8--Tommy Phong says he is no giant-killer.
But the 37-year-old president and owner of Sacramento-based Welco Supermarket Inc. is about to do a pretty fair imitation of the underdog in a David vs. Goliath pairing.
Phong will preside over the opening of Welco's second Sacramento market Saturday at 4408 Del Rio Road, near the intersection of South Land Park Drive and Sutterville Road.
The comparatively tiny store -- about 25,000 square feet -- will operate within a short bike ride of one of the most profitable supermarkets in the formidable Raley's Inc. chain, the sprawling Raley's at 4850 Freeport Blvd.
