Those first nylon holsters from Uncle Mike's were--shall we be polite here?--a good first-attempt. The technology was brand-new and no one actually understood the correct process for manufacturing synthetic holsters. It was like the early days of fiberglass boats, only the opposite.
Since no one knew how strong fiberglass was, they made the boats four times thicker than they had to be. Early nylon holster makers took the opposite tack and made the holsters a bit on the light side. That's why there are plenty of fiberglass boats still around, but hardly any vintage nylon holsters.
