According to statistics, the output of caustic soda China was 5.1839 million tons in 1998, a drop of 1.48% from 1997. The output in the first 10 months of 1999 was 6.5364 million tons, a rise of 10.5% over the same period last year. The price of caustic soda has always been on the low side in these years. The output in crease is caused by the production growth of PVC. Main reasons for the slack caustic soda market in China are as follows:
(1) The capacity is larger than the market demand. Quite a few caustic soda units newly constructed and revamped started production in 1996 and 1997. The capacity far exceeds the actual output, and around 1.00 million t/a ...
