Ask actor James Whitmore about his craft and all you'll get is, "I try to leave Whitmore in the dressing room."
Inquire about his lengthy career in fickle Hollywood, and he blames "incredibly good luck."
But throw a few questions about Will Rogers his way, and the venerable character actor just can't contain himself.
"He's one of the nicest men I've ever been in double harness with . . . the most beloved man America maybe ever had," says Mr. Whitmore of the American icon whom the actor has portrayed on and off for 30 years. "He had that great combination of wisdom and humor. He didn't have a mean bone in his body."
