The moon follows me street by street--
the same moon with its camembert and blue face,
blue-eyed moon--or a new moon each street,
one per street--whichever it is
I'm faithful to the one I see, singing "Moon River,"
as I go, walking the streets, faithful to the one
I'm with at the moment I'm with her--I'm with
no one now--I take the moon for a symbol of devotion
tonight,
of love's grace, moon over the East River,
Hudson delta, over the Atlantic where hurricane's
despoiling an empty patch of sea, warming up--
tonight there's moonlight in the city, pale effusion
upon the shoulders of drummed-out lovers
and torture ...
