Feb. 16--PERRY, Ga.--A chicken-processing plant that could eventually bring as many as 3,000 new jobs to Middle Georgia is on track to open this summer.
Cagle's Inc. plans to open a plant just outside Perry by August and will initially hire between 600 and 800 people, said David Moore, the company's human resources manager.
"That could vary one way or another, depending on how many lines are open," he said.
Within six months of opening, Cagle's will add another 600 to 800 jobs with the start of a night shift, Moore said.
"We will top out at between 2,500 and 3,000 employees," he said.
