Feb. 14--CALHOUN, Ky.--Folks fed up with living next to poultry farms -- which they blame for strong odors, hordes of flies and a litany of health problems -- gathered Sunday afternoon to listen to a nurse, brought in by the Sierra Club, tell them just why they should be concerned.
Susan Patton, a registered nurse from Independence who conducts health assessments in communities struck by environmental disasters, encouraged western Kentucky residents to confront the increased presence of poultry farms with strong action. Patton also suggested they seek a grant to pay for her services, which she said could help create a legally sound record of the health problems ...
