No to Matt Damon, but yes to Sean Penn.
No to Jim Carrey, but a big yes for 79-year-old Richard Farnsworth.
These were just two of the shockers among yesterday's Academy Award nominations. In a year when no motion picture dominated and speculation was rife that anything could happen, Penn's nomination in the little-seen Woody Allen comedy "Sweet and Lowdown" proves the point.
Damon, director Anthony Minghella and their film "The Talented Mr. Ripley" were deemed insufficiently talented to contend for the Oscars for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture. So was Carrey, again an also-ran despite his Golden Globe win for portraying the late ...
