During the time of the Soviet Union, Western experts did not receive detailed information about studies of giftedness in Russia. Since the 1960s, Russian psychologists have increasingly shared information about their studies of gifted children and adolescents with colleagues in Western countries. Krutetsky (1963, 1964) published reports that referred to special abilities. Matyushkin (1990) outlined a Soviet perspective on giftedness and creativity. Bogoyavlenskaya (1995a) compared creativity measured by the Torrance tests to an original technique that she developed for measuring creativity called Creative Field.
