Last week's federally mandated check of more than 1,100 jet tail assemblies is an everyday occurrence, Boeing Company chairman and CEO Philip Condit said Thursday.
Condit said it was still too early to tell whether the discovery of metal shavings around the jackscrews and gimbal nuts of several stabilizers are the result of routine wear or evidence of a larger problem.
"The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) is taking the lead in (the Alaska Airlines Flight 261) investigation and we are just providing support," Condit said. "It will take further study to determine possible causes, but keep in mind we gather an ...
