Feb. 21--The often-repeated assertion that Massachusetts has the world's costliest hospitals is a myth, executives of the state's community hospitals assert in an analysis to be released tomorrow.
The community hospitals' study, previewed last week for hospital executives and legislators, is designed to be the centerpiece in an upcoming legislative campaign to win hundreds of millions of dollars in additional payments for community hospitals.
The average cost of a stay in Massachusetts' five-dozen community hospitals, the analysis found, is 15 percent less than the national average and 19 percent less than in Mississippi, when differences in wages and ...
