Cytoclonal Pharmaceutics Inc., Dallas, Texas, announced the development of several active lead compounds to inhibit rhinoviruses, the most frequent cause of the common cold.
The lead compounds inhibit the rhinovirus 3C protease and were designed for broad antiviral activity, low toxicity, and reduced resistance. The lead molecules provide protection of human cells in culture against several types of rhinovirus. One class of compound showed minimum toxicity in animal studies.
