Showa Denko KK is expanding its production capacity for ceria-based materials used for polishing electronic devices. The expansion programme will cost the Tokyo-based company about [yen]500 million (about $4.67 million).
Showa Denko's ceria-based polishing products are sold under two main tradenames - ROX and GPL.
ROX is a micro-powder for polishing the glasses used in liquid-crystal display panels and substrates for hard disks. The product is manufactured by the company's subsidiary, Thohoku Metal Chemical Co Ltd, located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. As part of the expansion plans, ROX's production capacity will be increased to 200 t a month from April 2000, ...
