Showa Denko to expand ceria-based polishing materials business.

Showa Denko KK is expanding its production capacity for ceria-based materials used for polishing electronic devices. The expansion programme will cost the Tokyo-based company about [yen]500 million (about $4.67 million).

Showa Denko's ceria-based polishing products are sold under two main tradenames - ROX and GPL.

ROX is a micro-powder for polishing the glasses used in liquid-crystal display panels and substrates for hard disks. The product is manufactured by the company's subsidiary, Thohoku Metal Chemical Co Ltd, located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
