Let me tell you about a magic word. It is a word used by the wise and the unwise. The word is "No."
Why does this word appear so often in management circles? As a management consultant, I travel the country counseling companies with obvious problems such as manufacturing inefficiencies, dysfunctional labor-management relationships, and eroding profit margins.
What is interesting is that most executives do not know what to do in these circumstances. Yet, when gathered in a solemn conclave to decide a course of action, one executive will invariable say "No" loud and clear.
