Feb. 24--Wal-Mart Stores has embarked on what analysts say is an unprecedented expansion in the Metroplex, with 50 new stores planned over the next few years.
The company has about 40 stores -- including Sam's Clubs, regular Wal-Marts and Wal-Mart Supercenters -- in the Metroplex. Although some of the new stores are expected to replace existing ones, the company's net gain in local retail space is still expected to exceed 3 million square feet.
"They have an amazing, amazing company," said Herb Weitzman, chief executive of the Weitzman Group, a Dallas retail tracking firm.
