Driven by the strong shipments of ink jet printers, the U.S. printer market grew 23 percent in 1999, with shipments reaching 23.8 million units, according to Dataquest Inc., a unit of Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT). In 1998, U.S. printer shipments totaled 19.3 million units.
