Driven by the strong shipments of ink jet printers, the U.S. printer market grew 23 percent in 1999, with shipments reaching 23.8 million units, according to Dataquest Inc., a unit of Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT). In 1998, U.S. printer shipments totaled 19.3 million units.

The industry was lead by the ink jet printer market, which had shipments totaling 19.3 million units, an increase of 30 percent over 1998 shipments.
